By the end of the course, graduates will expect to have gained:
Mountain Leader (Summer) Training
Single Pitch Award Training
UKCC Level 1 Coach in Paddle Sports
CTC Trail Cycle Leader
RYA Powerboat Level 2 and Safety Boat
First Aid
It is also possible for students to undertake their RYA level 2 Dinghy and CTC Technical Trail leader, but this will be at extra cost.
The course will focus on two key areas, the first will be to gain good hard-skills experience by doing the activities in various parts of Wales and England. This will also include a 10 day climbing trip to Spain (at an additional minimal cost). Success in the hard skills areas will depend on students working towards their qualifications in their free time in addition to experiences gained on the course.
The second focus area will be on facilitation, group management and personal development. We recognise that many new instructors come away from similar courses with lots of experience undertaking the activities, but no experience or confidence in talking to or leading groups. We therefore aim to provide graduates with:
Session Planning Skills
Risk Assessment and Management
A toolbox of styles to use with groups
Understanding of facilitation theory coupled with practical experience.
Personal awareness of own strengths and areas for improvement
The course cost is £6000 per person and includes training and tuition, accommodation and use of centre equipment. Extras will include, food and registration to the various governing bodies. It is possible that those resident in Wales may be able to be partially funded, but this is yet to be confirmed.
