We are also fortunate enough to be able to offer all CTC Mountain Bike Leader awards here at mount Severn, run over both weekdays and weekends, the courses are the UK's industry standard in leading mountain biking both here and abroad.
Beside fantastic trails and scenery here at Mount Severn, the hall is a first class training facility ideally suited to the class room based part of the course.
Trail Leader Award:
Covering the essential skills of leading groups, the Trail Leader Award fulfils many leaders' needs in full. It focuses on games and skills development, group management to fulfill the four e's for your group:
• Ensuring safety
• Enjoyment
• Engagement
• Education
It includes essential navigation and trailside maintenance skills; roles, responsibilities and ride preparation principles. Dynamic risk assessment and dealing with emergencies also form valuable parts of the course.
As the main entry point for virtually all mountain bike leaders and instructors, Trail Leaders gain valuable fundamental competencies that form the backbone of their role, whether in Trail terrain, or having moved on to Technical environments or beyond.
Trail Leaders can also provide the Go-Mountain Bike Award, a Cycling Scotland-CTC joint partnership, to motivate and reward participants involvement in mountain biking.
Technical Leader Award:
The Technical Leader Award covers the vast majority of useable mountain biking access within the UK and Europe. Providing the knowledge and skills base to manage and develop group's skills in technical terrain to a high level of competency means this qualification is well recognized and Technical Leaders are appreciated by employers, customers and group members.
Essentially taking the elements developed through the Trail Leader Award, this course goes into substantially more depth and expectations of your abilities (as leaders, not just riding capabilities) are high.
You will be competent at riding in technical ground, developing your riders skills, navigating to detail and sorting out mechanical and other incidents, all whilst motivating, engaging and educating your group members.
If you are interested in developing your mountain biking into a career, or simply want to broaden your knowledge base of the activity, book onto a course right away!

Each course is one day's duration and cover's the essential principles at each level:
• Road and Trailside Repairs - The fundamentals of bike maintenance; safety and everything you can do with a multi tool
• Advanced Repairs - using specialist tools at home and work
• Fleet Management - Looking after lots of bikes; procedures and protocols, responsibilities and liabilities; ensuring users safety
The first two levels often operate on consecutive days, ensuring that you cover all aspects of fundamental maintenance principles.
It is sometimes possible to miss a level where evidence of substantial maintenance experience already exists. All courses help you work on your own bike, with your own tools, with additional equipment available where needed.
